Fit out of training and testing facility
Cushman & Wakefield were initially instructed to carry out a review of the contractors proposals to fit out their new training facility in Slough
The requirement was to provide training facilities for Fiat mechanics in a workshop setting, a number of modern classrooms for teaching, a canteen facility as well as preparation and photography area for cars being presented to the press.
Having undertaken the review we were appointed to Project Manage and Contract Administration of the facility. There were significant budget constraints as well a tight programme due to their existing facilities lease expiry.
The facility was also an amalgamation of two separate Fiat teams within the same project. Hence a need to manage effectively two clients on one project.
The project also included significant coordination of the planning application, building control approval and landlords consent.
With the nominated contractor and their design team we reviewed in detail the proposed scheme. We worked with the client to prepare a more accurate brief, budget and programme.
Significant Value Engineering and negotiation drove the contractors costs down to meet the clients expectations, with little if any impact on the aesthetic and operation of the facility.
The construction works were completed on time and within budget in May 2011.
“From the moment C&W was engaged they had an immediate positive impact and this was before we even moved to realisation phase.
Their knowledge and council helped steer us through an alien environment from surveys, HOT,s, lease conditions and numerous other requirements which frankly we had not truly understood at the inception.
C&W then took control of the project, liaising with all parties and suppliers to bring together a fully costed proposal with which we all felt confident to proceed, moving to actual development work with a matter of months.
Once the project commenced building they made sure every facet of this complex puzzle came together at the right time to meet the overriding project guidelines of delivery on time and in budget.”
