Costa Coffee is relocating to larger premises in Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street to meet demand from shoppers and office workers.
The nation’s favourite coffee shop brand is opening opposite Primark in Spring 2015.
The café, will cover 2,354 sq ft at ground floor level and 2,038 sq ft at basement level, and is to be formed via an amalgamation of the former Jacobs Photographic and Semichem shops.
The company has taken the premises on a new 15 year lease at a rent of £115,000 per annum.
Isla Monteith, Partner, Retail Services at Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord Legal & General. She said: “Costa trade extremely well from their existing store in the area but wanted a larger unit in order to accommodate more customers. They were also attracted by the prominent corner position, opposite Primark.”
With over 1,600 coffee shops in the UK and more than 1,000 overseas, Costa is the fastest growing coffee shop business in the UK and the second largest coffee shop operator in the world. Founded in London by Italian brothers Sergi and Bruno Costa in 1971, Costa recently diversified into both the at-home and gourmet self- serve markets.
