Simon Lloyd, Partner in the National Industrial & Logistics team, based in Birmingham comments:
“The publication of the Midlands Engine Strategy is welcome news following a distinct lack of announcements for the region in yesterday’s Budget.
The £392m being made available through the Local Growth Fund will be vital in supporting transport projects and enabling people to develop their technical skills – key to maintaining our position as the heartland of the UK’s manufacturing sector.
Building upon the government’s recent Industrial Strategy, it is also pleasing to have details of what improvements are to be made as part of the £5 billion invested in Midlands transport infrastructure, including smart motorways, vital junction improvements and, of course, HS2 and the Midlands Rail Hub.
What is clear from the strategy is the commitment to positioning the Midlands as the growth engine for the whole of the UK, after all if the region prospers then so does the rest of the country.”
