Cushman & Wakefield Surveyor, Sandy Walker has returned from the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Australia with a Bronze medal for Team Scotland in the Fullbore Pairs Target Rifle event.
Sandy, an Associate in the Residential, London Markets team at Cushman & Wakefield said: “The Games were truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I think all athletes knew that the Australians would put on a fantastic competition as a result of their passion for all sports and pride as a nation but we were taken back by how impressive and amazing an experience it was.
“The Games were the culmination of 18 months of hard work and dedication. My competition partner, Ian Shaw and I knew our best chance of a medal was in the Pairs event as we won Bronze five months earlier in the Games Test Event in Brisbane. In these events I think you have to target a gold medal and we knew we were certainly capable of achieving that but realistically, a medal of any colour was our goal given that the top 6 to 8 countries are usually separated by the smallest of margins. To come back with a bronze medal is an amazing feeling!”
Sandy will now be turning his attention to the UK season.
He continued: “I’ve got a number of competitions over the next few months culminating in the UK nationals in July. For the past two seasons I’ve been around the top 10 so the target this year is a top 5 finish. My focus then turns to preparation with GB for the World Championships in New Zealand in Feb 2019 where I’ll be competing for GB in the team event and also as an individual. All go but great to have a new focus after the highs of the Commonwealth Games.”
